Romantic Trips in Scotland

Eilean Donan Castle, is possibly one of the most photographed castles in Scotland and it is also known for its romantic qualities. Its location makes it a unique and breath taking place to be as it is set on a small rocky island where 3 great lochs meet. There is something quite tranquil about its location and it allows you to reconnect, think and just live in the moment. The Castle as we know it know was rebuilt by Clan McRae and it has been returned to its former glory. They attempted to rebuild the castle to the surviving plans of the original castle which makes the building itself more special. A very random fact of the castle is that it is one of very few Scottish castles that has a left handed spiral staircase! Of course you don’t need to get married here you can simply visit for the day as they have a delicious coffee shop and gift shop.

Silver Sands of Morar is a string of the most outstanding sandy beaches which scatter from Arisaig to Morar. They give a view out to the Islands of Rum, Muck, Canna and Eigg. It is no wonder they are so popular with walkers and those looking for a romantic backdrop for a day out. Enjoy the company of a loved one, a proposal, picnic and simple times to bring you closer together again.

Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye by Glenbrittle. Here you find some clear blue waters which really do make the most romantic spot locally. The story is that they contain some magic within their waters and many therefore enjoy a bit of wild swimming if you’re brave enough for those icy waters! If you prefer to stay dry, they have some beautiful photo opportunities and the noise of the water is quite enchanting.

Arthur’s seat in Edinburgh has also been mentioned as a popular romantic destination for people to enjoy. Many of our Scottish Tourer customers start their holiday with a visit to Edinburgh so it’s a perfect start to a romantic holiday. The walk up to Arthur’s seat will ensure you get plenty oxygen into your lungs and some fresh air on your skin. At the top you can gain some spectacular 360 degree views over Edinburgh and Lothian. The site interestingly enough is actually part of an extinct volcano.

Another beautiful beach which will transport you a million miles away from your usual hectic life is that of Calgary Bay on the Isle of Mull. Engulf yourself into the white sands, watch the sunrise or the sunset with those you love the most in one of the most beautiful locations to be had.

Just a few snippets of places that we have found along our travels that really bring out the romantics in us. There’s something so enjoyable about waking up next to the beach and going for a stroll with the one you love. Simple yet so magical at the same time. Get away from that hustle and bustle and book your next holiday with Scottish Tourer!
