• You don’t have to have a schedule, you are not tied down to meals at a certain time, checking in and out each day or adhering to different place’s rules. As long as you remember the Scottish code of leaving only footprints you are free to explore almost everywhere.
• Our motorhomes are so comfortable and have a well equipped but condensed kitchen and all you need to be able to sit outside and enjoy the outdoors wherever you choose to park up.
When we look at the history of Scotland, Castles are often one of the main features of this. There are so many to choose from, deserted, lived in and fortresses that astound even those who have researched.
• One of the most iconic fortresses must be Edinburgh Castle. This is often a starting point for many Scottish Tourer customers as we can offer a pre bookable collection point. The castle has played a huge role in Scottish History from its battles and sieges to the less brutal royal ceremonies and occasions. The castle is impressively perched on the hill, no wonder it is a huge tourist attraction.
• Moving to another well known city, Stirling Castle is more in the heart of Scotland, it has a wealth of history and from the 13th to 18th Century it served as the royal residences for kings and queens throughout the years. Today everyone can explore the architecture, gardens and well maintained exhibitions. There is so much to do for the children here and you can also use the opportunity to visit the Wallace monument.
• Heading more remotely which is what we like, you can head over to the iconic and romantic Eilean Donan Castle, this is a place you will never regret visiting as its just truly breath taking, don’t forget your camera for this one! The Castle in comparison to the first two is much smaller, however its presence makes it one of the best castles to visit.
• Urquhart castle by Loch Ness is very popular as the area is with tourists. It is worth a visit however bear in mind this area gets really busy in the summer months and can make it slightly less enjoyable when it is mobbed. The Castle itself is impressive looking as it sits on the banks of the Loch.
• Dunnottar Castle is set in one of the most amazing landscapes and the views from here are outstanding. When planning this is a must for anyone’s bucket list!
If you are aiming to just visit Castles, be sure to plan your route or if you have already made your trip planner then see if any of these are nearby and add it in to get the most out of your motorhome holiday with Scottish Tourer. The only thing we have to remind customers of is the risk of some of the narrow roads and if there is a remote place you want to go be sure to check you are confident and that the motorhome will fit in and out of where you are heading.
Scotland is a country that will captivate you at every turn and there are always things that are unseen. So get those bags packed, hit the road and prepare to embark on the best adventure of your lifetime.
